About Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery

Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM) is a diploma programme for students who want to serve where healthcare is needed most — in villages, sub-centres, primary health centres and community outreach programmes. An ANM is often the first trained health professional a rural family meets, which makes this role deeply respected and genuinely impactful.

The programme teaches the basics of nursing along with maternal and child health. Students learn how to care for pregnant women, conduct safe deliveries under supervision, look after newborns, run immunisation sessions and educate families about nutrition, hygiene and disease prevention. Clinical postings in hospitals and community settings turn this knowledge into practical confidence.

What You Will Learn in ANM

  • Fundamentals of nursing and first aid
  • Community health nursing and home visits
  • Midwifery: antenatal, intranatal and postnatal care
  • Child health, growth monitoring and immunisation
  • Health promotion, nutrition and family welfare
  • Primary health care and record keeping at health centres

ANM Eligibility Criteria

  • 10+2 pass in any stream from a recognised board (science is not compulsory in most cases)
  • Minimum marks as prescribed by the nursing council for the session
  • Minimum age of 17 years at the time of admission; upper age limit as per council norms
  • Medically fit to undertake clinical duties

Eligibility conditions are set by the concerned council, board or university and may change from session to session. Our admission counsellors confirm your eligibility before you take admission.
