About Early Childhood Care and Education

Research shows that most of a child’s brain development happens before the age of eight. What children experience in these years — play, language, care and encouragement — shapes their learning for life. Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) trains teachers and caregivers to make the most of this period.

The programme covers child development, health and nutrition, play-based learning, storytelling, music and movement, and early literacy and numeracy. Students learn to plan age-appropriate activities, observe each child’s progress and work closely with parents. This aligns with the importance given to foundational learning in the National Education Policy 2020.

ECCE – Frequently Asked Questions

How is ECCE different from NTT?

Both focus on young children. ECCE gives more weight to overall care, health and development, while NTT focuses more on classroom teaching methods for nursery classes. Many teachers find both useful.

Can I start a play school after ECCE?

Yes. ECCE gives you the knowledge needed to plan and run an early learning centre, subject to local registration requirements.
